Since 2008, Beijing BeyondView Technology Co.,Ltd (BeyondView) has served industrial, security, law enforcement and outdoor sectors with advanced thermal imaging solutions, from IR/CMOS/Low Light modules to thermal binoculars, sights, and handheld thermal imagers.
As a global innovator in infrared and visible-light technologies, BeyondView delivers cutting-edge solutions that transform how industries see, analyze, and interact with the world.
At BeyondView, we engineer the future of imaging. We don't just capture images, we reveal critical truths hidden beyond human vision. We empower professionals with insights beyond visible light to improve safety, efficiency, and critical decision-making.
1. What is a thermal imaging sight and how does it differ from a standard scope?
A thermal imaging sight is a device-mounted optic that detects heat signatures to create a visual image, allowing the user to see targets in total darkness, through smoke, fog, and light foliage. Unlike standard optical scopes or night vision that rely on reflected visible or near-infrared light, thermal sights see the heat emitted by objects themselves, making them effective in a wider range of adverse conditions.
2. What are the primary applications for a thermal sight?
Law Enforcement: For target acquisition, surveillance, and operations in low-visibility and no-light conditions.
Hunting: Effective for hunting nocturnal animals (e.g., feral hogs, coyotes) and for locating game in thick brush where camouflage is effective against the naked eye.
Pest & Predator Control: Managing invasive species or protecting livestock from predators after dark.
Security: Protecting critical infrastructure and borders by enabling guards to see intruders regardless of lighting.
3. What is the core technology behind a thermal sight?
It uses an uncooled microbolometer sensor array. This sensor detects minute differences in infrared radiation (heat) from objects in its field of view. Each pixel in the array measures the temperature and creates a detailed "heat map." This data is then processed and translated into the grayscale or colorized image you see on the display.
4. What do "Base Magnification" and "Digital Zoom" mean for a thermal sight?
Base Magnification: This is the fixed optical magnification provided by the lenses. A 1x or 1.25x base magnification is common for close-quarters use, while 2-5x is typical for longer-range engagements. It maintains full sensor resolution.
Digital Zoom: This feature electronically enlarges a portion of the image. While useful, it reduces resolution and clarity. A sight with a higher native sensor resolution will provide a better image when using digital zoom.
5. How is "Detection Range" defined for a thermal sight?
Detection Range is the maximum distance at which the sight can identify the presence of a heat signature against the background. For a thermal sight, this is typically defined using a standard-sized target, such as a man-sized object (approx. 1.8m tall). You will see a hot spot, but not necessarily what it is.
